Good cold evening, Colorado. Two issues in the news pertaining to Colorado today were diaried on the front page. I’ll just briefly mention them, and then throw the thread open for whatever is firing you up today.
Donald Trump visited Utah today to drastically announce he was reducing the size of two national monuments declared under two previous Democratic presidencies. While these were in Utah, they might be test cases for Colorado National Monuments, which include Colorado NM, Dinosaur NM, Florissant Fossil Beds NM, Hovenweep NM and Yucca House NM. There are also National Recreation Areas in Colorado which may also offend the sensibilities of the land ravishers, so if they succeed in Utah, there may be Colorado lands they intend to “return to the people”. As a former NPS ranger and firm believer in the mission of preserving and protecting the resources of the National Parks so as to leave them unimpaired for future generations — F*** them.
Meteor Blades’ front page diaryThe Denver Post’s version of the national storyThe Denver Post’s politics page with the reports of Colorado’s reactionsThe second issue is the case of the Colorado baker who is claiming that his First Amendment (read, artistic expression) rights were violated when he had to make a cake for a gay couple’s wedding. The front page story on DKos was about how this case is hoped to throw wide open all the protests against forced accommodation by people who want to discriminate.
Front Page diaryDenver Post story which includes much more information. With this Supreme Court, I really have bad expectations.
For local election results, check out Leftcandid’s diary here. Good info on local elections and some thoughts for future ones.
BTW, I won’t be in Colorado for the next two Mondays. If someone wishes to do the Open Thread, you’re welcome to do so. Contact me and I’ll help you set things up for publishing (Contact me by Sunday the 10th). After that, Mondays will be Christmas and New Years, and quite honestly, I’m not sure whether I’ll feel up to publishing those days with original content or not. I’ll at least post a diary for people to gather together, but I don’t know that I’ll be participating.
Caffeinating Liberally will be on Saturday, December 16th (I’ll still be out of town) but Leftcandid will be at Common Grounds Coffeeshop, 44th and Vallejo, from 9AM to noonish. Please come help him enjoy the last gathering of the year.
The floor is yours.
