Colorado State Open Thread: Happy New Year 2016!

I’ve got almost nothing for you this week.

Kindly please allow me to explain. My ongoing series of Colorado State Open Thread Diaries describing how the Pikes Peak Region became the right-wing nutjob bastion it is today, from the progressive, forward-looking place it has been, has temporarily been put on hold. (Please note that it’s only temporary!)

Why?

Because we’re now at the point in time where William J. Palmer is leaving the stage to the ilk of Bob Womack, Nikola Tesla, James Z. McCullough (my ancestor), and Spencer Penrose, the timeframe of 1885 — 1910 or so. (Palmer died from complications of an equestrian accident in 1909.) Both the research/fact/story load and the appearance and involvement of my paternal ancestors have shot through the roof. This makes sense, as the Pikes Peak Region is coming into its own in this timeframe, becoming part of “civilization” rather than being an outpost in the wilderness. So there’s a lot more material to track down, organize, and get fed into the maw of the semi-organized maelstrom we know and love as Daily Kos.

And that’s before we consider the impact of the switchover to DK 5.0.   :-)

So, friends and fellow Coloradoans, I thank you for your patience, and wish each and all of us a Happy New Year in 2016! And do please rest assured that I’m still on the historical (hysterical?) Diary series project!
