No Violence In This Photo Diary, The Colorado State Open Thread, 11/22/2021

The Colorado State Open Thread is generally to share news, thoughts and whatever people wish to talk about that has something to do with Colorado.  It can also be used to share thoughts from people of Colorado about the outside world in general. During this week of Thanksgiving, I am going to post some photos I’ve taken of my local wildlife and scenery because this week has started off so far from peaceful I just don’t wish to talk about those issues anymore, and it’s only Monday. If you wish to discuss any of the violence and things that make people feel badly in this Open Thread, that’s allowed. It’s really for you to talk about what’s on your minds. However, what’s on my mind is a desire for peace, beauty, family and one of my absolute favorite holidays because I love cooking so much. Please add your thoughts down below, in the comments, after you’ve had a chance to see the local charismatic megafauna.

The view from my deck on Saturday

This big bull elk has been hanging around our neighborhood.  Every time I see him he’s lying down. He’s probably exhausted from the rut. It is hard work keeping the ladies satisfied and away from your rivals.

Turkeys don’t fear the upcoming holiday. They know they’re protected from people.

My dog Ginger didn’t read the rules about their being protected. As God is my witness, yes, turkeys can fly when they need to. Wild ones, anyway.

A raven stopped by today for a drink of water.

Sprague Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park, about 6:30 AM Saturday

The lake still isn’t frozen over

Mallards, IIRC, still feeding where the lake is free of ice

Normally, there are mountain peaks up that valley. Saturday morning, they were obscured by snow.

I will be returning to this lake often since my home is close to that hill in the background.

Our squirrels up here are smaller than down in the valley (out of the mountains). This is a Douglas Tree Squirrel, sitting on the front wall of our “compound”.

I’m the toy soldier on the right in this picture.

I hope you’ll comment down below and maybe share your plans for this Thanksgiving week.  Next week, just to give you a heads up, I’m going to be asking for photos of your food this week, be it a home cooked dinner on Thursday or a fast food snack that you manage to grab on your way in your busy life.  Just to let others know what’s cooking.  Peace, joy and a wonderful holiday week to you all.  As for this evening, the floor is now yours...
