The act of voting will be really tough if you’re registered for the Democratic presidential primary here in Colorado. No matter where you are in the state, you’ll have a choice among the following candidates:

Jason Michael Palmer — website palmerforpresident.us

Gabriel Cornejo — website www.gabe2024.com

Frankie Lozada — website frankie4US.com

Dean Phillips — website dean24.com

Stephen P. Lyons — website lyons2024.com

Marianne Williamson — website marianne2024.com (honestly, this looks like a concession speech video)

Joseph R. Biden Jr — website joebiden.com

Armando “Mando” Perez-Serrato — website presidentmando.com

Noncommitted delegate*

*The Colorado Democratic Party submitted a request for a "Noncommitted delegate" to appear on the 2024 Presidential Primary Ballot under the provisions of Colorado Revised Statutes 1-4-1204(3). Per statute, a vote for the Noncommitted delegate provides "a place on the primary ballot for electors who have no presidential candidate preference to register a vote to send a noncommitted delegate to the political party’s national convention.

The list, including most of the website list, comes from the Colorado Secretary of State’s website, last updated January 5, 2024. Ballots must be in the mail soon, and since we have a smart state, you can submit your ballot with the one question on it right up through 7PM on Super Tuesday, March 5th.

Visiting just the home pages of the websites, most of the people are not (imho) showing that they have the experience — foreign or domestic, to take on the job of POTUS. Only one is currently in office (three term congressman Dean Phillips from Minnesota), but all of them emphasize wording like “new generation”, “fresh ideas” or other differences with the current President’s age. Frankly, my takeaway is they are young and inexperienced and not ready-for-prime-time. Sure they’ll gain some experience from this effort, but not enough to make me consider them for my vote this year or probably the next few elections for President.

Pete Buttigieg (hey, I spelled that right without checking first!) I think has gained a great deal of experience as the Transportation secretary and he always was a great speaker and debater. He’s my favorite young candidate, though I’d also consider someone like Gavin Newsome in 2028. I’m not sure I’m a fan of Kamala Harris, but I’ll at least listen to her in 2028 if she runs (I expect her to). I do want a new generation of candidate for President in 2028. No more septuagenarian or octogenarians running, though we had a very strong President in Joe Biden and he was 77  or 78 when he ran for his current term. I’d love to hear in the comments who you’d like to run in 2028.

Yes, I cast my vote for Joseph R Biden Jr. I will cast my vote again in November for him as well.

In other news, the other Colorado primaries are going to be on June 25th for the State Houses (Representatives and Senators), the US Congressional Representatives, the University of Colorado Board of Regents and the state Board of Education. Colorado gets to skip this year’s Senate races, so you don’t have to endure more speeches from Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper. I wonder if they’re going to both try running for President again (and no, I would not vote for either of them unless they’re the last man standing (literally)).

Sunrise after a snowfall

I am glad that we finally have a bit of snow. There are still bare spots, especially underneath trees. We certainly have had more recently to help the snow pack.

I wish we had snow covering the closer range

We are hoping for more snow during the middle of the week, but we’re not expecting much. March should be our snowiest month. It seems like much of the snow stayed south in the state or passed us on the north. This was predicted to be a wet winter, but so far we have mostly been missed. It’s still a very pretty view from this afternoon.

Again, I am inviting one or more of you to take over the Open Thread on March 25th, April 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd. Please let me know if you would like to take on one or more of those columns. It’s much nicer to have someone writing them as opposed to my just putting up a template and inviting people to “have at it.” Just send me a Kosmail or make a comment down below.

The floor is yours...
