Colorado State Open Thread - Colorado in the media

First off — I know this may come as a surprise to you, but Colorado’s caucuses will be held in less than a week.  If you still want information on what the process is, how to participate (if you’re a registered Democrat, or even if not) and you want to help elect your candidates, have a say in the party platform and meet like-minded individuals, see the Caucus edition of the Colorado State Open Thread.

I was driving in to work today and I heard that NPR would have a number of stories on Colorado today.  I’ve collected some links and I encourage you to see how the national media see us, how the Koch brothers are trying to turn our state red and how Pot sales have continued to climb rapidly.

From this morning’s “Morning Edition” — Voters under the age of 35 have become a decisive force in Colorado but many of them choose not to affiliate with a political party. We examine why.

Two articles about the closing of Guantanamo Bay and the potential impact on Colorado —

First Gitmo piece, from yesterday’s “All Things Considered” — Republican Senator Cory Gardner repeating Republican talking points.  While it wasn’t his quotes from yesterday (I think it was 850KOA) where he indicated the prisoners shouldn’t be brought to American soil because then they’d have basic human rights whereas now they don’t (SOOOO much contributing to the war crimes by this and the last administration), he’s still all afraid that the prisoners might be super-scary.  He really disses the ability of the professionals at the Supermax prison in Florence, indicating that they’d not be up to the task of holding these people while they’re already holding multiple terrorists already.  He also claims that Congress would discuss this with Obama if he’d just go talk with them, as if he hasn’t tried before and been continually shot down.  BTW, a very interesting article that added a great deal to my knowledge of how the whole Gitmo issue has evolved is at www.theguardian.com/….  I really learned a lot from it.  Of course, it had to come from a foreign news source…

Second Gitmo piece, from this morning’s “Morning Edition”, an interview with the city manager of Florence about the possibility of the Gitmo prisoners being transferred to the Supermax.

From the local CPR “Colorado Matters”, a piece on the Koch Brothers and their lobbying arm, Americans for Prosperity, as they seek to solidify Republican gains in the Colorado legislature and in thwarting any/all efforts at a state government that actually tries to care for people as opposed to hurting those less fortunate than the 1%’ers.

And finally, something that’s not about this current election.  An article on Colorado and Greene river water allocation in the face of climate and population changes.

Feel free to share what’s on your minds — it’s an open Thread and we want to hear from you.
