Colorado State Open Thread: Here Come Ballots, School Board Edition

Hello, and welcome to Colorado State Debate Hangover Thread!  I was up until 1130 Facebooking when I needed to be up at 6.  I had a great time along with a couple hundred others at a big debate watch party at The Oriental Theater.

At least the debate was last night, rather than overlapping tonight's ACTION-PACKED open thread.  At least, it's action packed at our local levels.

You are probably familiar with the school board recall in Jefferson County.  JeffCo United is your resource to keep up with this important effort.  Ballots are mailed and should soon be in your unseasonably warm little hands.  All you Kosserians are of course expert ballot returners, so this isn't an issue for you, but it is an opportunity for you to help JeffCo United chase those ballots, help people navigate the recall steps, and pick up a yard sign.

I've seen opposition yard signs using a variant of the recall slogan Moving Forward; these signs say NO To Recall; Keep Moving Forward.  Sooooo, their strategy is confusion.  CRYSTAL CLARITY is needed; see above, the link to recall steps to vote for all five endorsed candidates (two new, three to replace the three recalled).  It's not hard, but it is an extra step.

That's JeffCo.  In Denver, Northsiders are encouraged to vote for Michael Kiley in District 5, and all of Denver is encouraged to vote for Robert Speth for At Large, who are proponents of traditional neighborhood public schools, aka NOT CORPORATE REFORMERS.  If we all work together as a team, and turn out, we can begin to reclaim public education from the corporate/charter/lottery model.

I don't have kids, but I think that would be GREAT.  My friends talk about their kids being on lottery lists to find out if they're getting into public charter schools, instead of simply having a neighborhood school with enough teachers and classrooms to succeed.  Who wouldn't prefer that to instead having an excess of grossly compensated administrators having meetings to strategize about how to best maximize an insufficient number of TEACHERS AND CLASSROOMS.

Anyhoo, enough from me.  What non-debate topics are on your mind?  Have they even had a chance to resurface?  Are you too blissed out by fall weather to care?  Are you rooting for the Tulo-ronto Blue Jays, who just advanced to the ALCS?
