Last Friday evening I had the first Kossack meetup in Estes Park at our house. Attending were Leftcandid, myself and Forester Bob (with special guest, Noble Fur, his cat). Forester Bob is on his annual trip west to Oregon to field-check forest trees to ensure that the aerial measurements are correct as far as tree size, density and health are concerned. He’s been stopping by one of the directions (usually westbound) and he travels with Noble Fur, who has a tremendous following over in the Pootie diaries. Leftcandid, as most of you know, founded the Colorado COmmunity group.

We spent a good amount of time catching up on the latest from the various participants, drinking a New Belgium beer made with hemp flower buds (Leftcandid’s new career is educating and promoting hemp growers) and my wife’s sangria filled with lots of fruit and watching the sun set in the northwest. There was indeed a lot of color to the sunset, but good color — not from wildfires.
Looking almost straight north, with the ball of fire sinking into the west. As the sun sinks it became redder I love evenings like this.We then adjourned and went into dinner after 8PM. Dinner consisted of smoked pork babyback ribs from my smoker and sides of potato salad or an apple. While we ate, we also watched Rachel Maddow’s report on the debate, including clips from every one of the participants as they hit their highlight moment, in her estimation.
Saturday after some indulged in pancakes and eggs plus lots of covfefe, we broke up. Leftcandid was headed to Aurora to knock on doors for the municipal elections this fall while Forester Bob and Nobel Fur headed towards the mountains of Rocky Mountain NP as he continued to head west. He had been asked to pick up an Oregon Republican Senator or two as he drove through Idaho so they could find their way back home. I had far simpler plans — a walk with Ginger around the neighborhood, which led us to startle a doe mule deer when we got back to our house. Overall, a successful meetup. We hope to have another one when we can get a few more folk.
Saturday flowers — These are likely spread from planted flowers. Couldn’t grow these in Denver. A very pale variety, with a bit of pink. I have at least three colors blooming now. Once the feeders were full, the air force came back aroundOn another note, I hope you saw the depths Doug Lamborn will dig to stir up his religious base while staying as far away from any current issues as possible — www.dailykos.com/…
