Colorado State Open Thread, 6/17/2019. Summertime visits

Well, it finally is summer-ish here in Estes Park.  We’ve had some visitors over the course of the two seasons (long winter and short spring) that we’ve been here, but at least now the precipitation at our elevation of 8200 feet comes in the form of rain instead of snow.  Though a couple evenings ago I did see my breath as I was walking our dog at dusk and we saw some frost on windows in the moonlight.

These hummingbirds hibernate every night to slow their heartbeats

I’m trying hard to keep up the hummingbird feeders.  I have to fill the four of them every other day.  Today I had a Ruby Throated hummingbird come up to me less than two feet away, to see if I was actually filling his feeder with his food.  They’re even more demanding than our cat, though our cat has taken to hanging out and watching these little birds — she really wants to test her quickness against theirs.

I’d love to hear what people’s summer plans are.  We’re going to be hosting Forester Bob and Noble Fur a week from Friday evening (the 28th) as they make their annual trek westward to the hills of the Cascades.  We may be able to have some other Kossacks come to visit — please let me know if you’re able to come and we’ll have space for sleeping and some good food and drink.

As a follow-up to an open thread earlier, the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners club had to give up on their petition to recall Democrat Tom Sullivan (father of Aurora Theater victim) because they didn’t have enough people willing to sign on to recall him.  I hope that bodes well for their other targets (and yes, they use that word in their speech and literature)

Please let us know what’s on your mind this June — the floor is yours.
