The Colorado State Open Thread is for all things, people and dreams of Colorado.  You don’t have to have been to Colorado, lived here, or even known someone from here to be interested in participating.  Please put any thoughts, comments, or photos down below; it is an open thread for all to join in.

Forester Bob brought his celebrity pootie to visit on his way from his summer forestry job to his home back east.  He has visited before so he knew the way and even though Mrs. ColoTim and I were out that evening, he was able to find the house and go inside to get Noble Fur settled.  Ginger, the Cocker spaniel, welcomed him — it seemed to Bob that she may have remembered him from two years ago.  Our pootie, Anni, may have remembered Noble Fur, but she didn’t greet her with the same enthusiasm.  The two pooties did not greet each other with hugs and kiss-kiss affection.  It was instead hiss-hiss.

Noble Fur giving Anni proper social distancing.

I can only interpret body language but I think Anni is sizing up Noble Fur (Anni outweighs NF by about three pounds) and is measuring how fast she can close the distance.

Ginger, OTOH, is friendly with Anni and she was happy to boop noses with Noble Fur but I don’t think Noble Fur was similarly happy.  Ginger is just that friendly.  Fortunately, over the 36 hours or so, no fur flew and we managed to preserve the peace.  Maybe in ten or fifteen years the girls will accept each other.  Maybe.  Until then, Ginger is happy to be the hostess, particularly to the humans.

While Forester Bob was visiting, we went around the area for some nice vantage points for taking photos, had some good food and played some Scrabble, with Mrs. ColoTim wiping us both out.

I’ve been having a bit of discussion with John in Denver who had written to me as one of the administrators of the Colorado COmmunity group as to how to join that group, any of the others in Colorado (DenverKos, Four Corners Kossacks, Pikes Peak Group, Southern Colorado Kos) or even Wyoming Kosacks.  When you join any of the regional groups, I’ll add you to Colorado COmmunity with Editor privilege so you can post diaries to the group.  The other benefit I can offer is a place to stay if you are going to be visiting Estes Park.  I used to offer that to people who may have been visiting Denver, and ForesterBob took me up on that, as did AnnetteBoardman a time or two.  There were also some parties I invited Kossacks to, but people were usually local for those.  Estes Park is a bit more exotic than Denver or Morrison, so I’ve had more people come and stay, though we’re within two hours of the Denver metro.

Our Bed and Breakfast, surrounded on three sides by the National Park.

A few other pictures from close by…

This morning, with a snow cloud over the Park

This evening, a lonely bull elk was bugling for love in the right place (except there are no females right here)

The hills above our house with some fall color from aspens.

Our neighborhood.

Rocky Mountain National Park.  I love having this for a backyard.

One more picture of Noble Fur, showing off her long white whiskers.

I am still inviting guest columns for the Open Thread on September 27th or October 4th.  Please let me know this week if you would like to write a diary for either or both of those dates.  Also, for any comments, questions or thoughts you have, the floor down below is yours...
